Pedersen taught courses in Gross Anatomy, Embryology, and Evolution at SDSU from 1999 through 2022. His disparate research efforts have included neonatal pathology, cranial morphology of cannibal salamanders, biomechanics of bat skulls, the biogeography of bats throughout the Caribbean, and has collected bats in Central America, China, and along the Ho Chi Minh trail in Viet Nam. He has authored 35 papers, 10 book chapters, 2 co-edited books, and 10 chapters/articles for the general public.
